A Proud Golf History in Quesnel
Golf in Quesnel dates back to 1930 and the first organized course, Willingdon Links, which was a rudimentary layout of nine holes, and was officially opened by Lord and Lady Willingdon. The first hole ran from the present Dunrovin Park Lodge to the first green at the Quesnel Museum.
From there, golfers crossed the railway tracks and played along the Quesnel River until the 7th tee which crossed back over the railway tracks and the 9th green by the old tennis courts. When the PGE Railway discontinued the lease for Willingdon links, local resident, Llyod Harper found and began development on the new 9 hole course at the current location on 1800 Blackwater Road. On June 3rd, 1956 the new course was officially opened. With the addition of the back 9 in the 1980’s, Quesnel Golf Club has become well known for it’s tree-lined fairways, rolling terrain, and challenging back nine to host many local and provincial tournaments, serving local and visiting golfers throughout central and northern British Columbia.
